FOX is announcing premieres dates for new and returning series, including the returns of AMERICAN IDOL and THE FOLLOWING, and the debut of new legal drama RAKE.

Featuring host Ryan Seacrest, a new judging panel, including Harry Connick, Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban, and Randy Jackson returning as the new in-house mentor, AMERICAN IDOL XIII begins with an exciting two-night, four-hour premiere Wednesday, Jan. 15 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Thursday, Jan. 16 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT).

Following the season finale of SLEEPY HOLLOW at a special time on Monday, Jan. 20 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), last season’s No. 1 new series THE FOLLOWING (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) begins its 15-week uninterrupted second season. Created by Kevin Williamson (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dawson’s Creek,” the “Scream” franchise) and starring Golden Globe Award-winning actor Kevin Bacon (“X-Men: The Last Stand,” “Frost/Nixon”) and James Purefoy (“Rome”), Season Two catches up with RYAN HARDY (Bacon), in the wake of a horrific new murder spree, which furthers his suspicion that JOE CARROLL’s (Purefoy) reign of terror is far from over. The series also stars Shawn Ashmore (the “X-Men” franchise) and Valorie Curry (“Veronica Mars”), and joining the cast this season are Connie Nielsen (“Boss,” “Law & Order: SVU”), Jessica Stroup (“90210”), Sam Underwood (“Dexter”) and Tiffany Boone (“Beautiful Creatures”).

Bold new legal drama RAKE debuts with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, Jan. 19 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/7:00-8:00 PM PT), following the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, and continuing with its time period premiere on Thursday, Jan. 23 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). Making his broadcast television series debut, Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Greg Kinnear (“Little Miss Sunshine,” “The Kennedys”) plays a brilliant and frustratingly charming criminal defense attorney, whose chaotic and self-destructive personal life often gets in the way of his professional one.

Beginning Saturday, Jan. 11 (11:00 PM-Midnight ET/PT), ANIMATION DOMINATION HIGH-DEF will feature LUCAS BROS. MOVING CO. and GOLAN THE INSATIABLE. In LUCAS BROS. MOVING CO., the stand-up comedy of New York-based identical twins Kenny and Keith Lucas (The Lucas Brothers) gets animated. The twins run a moving company, and no matter what happens around them, they always remain totally, bizarrely unfazed. GOLAN THE INSATIABLE is the story of a mighty godlord from an alternate universe who arrives in the small town of Oak Grove, where his only friend is a 10-year-old goth girl named DYLAN. As previously announced, on Saturday, Nov. 23 (11:00 PM-Midnight ET/PT), as part of a special ANIMATION DOMINATION HIGH-DEF lineup, LUCAS BROS. MOVING CO. and GOLAN THE INSATIABLE will preview, prior to their January launch.

As previously announced, new Army-set comedy ENLISTED debuts Friday, Jan. 10 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT). Written and created by Kevin Biegel (“Cougar Town,” “Scrubs”) and starring Geoff Stults (“The Finder”), Chris Lowell (“Private Practice,” “Veronica Mars”) and Parker Young (“Suburgatory”), ENLISTED is a single-camera comedy about an older sibling who returns home to reconnect with his two brothers and lead a group of misfits on a small Florida Army post.

This spring, new comedies SURVIVING JACK and US & THEM will debut on FOX; series premiere dates to be announced. From Emmy Award nominee Bill Lawrence (“Scrubs,” “Cougar Town”) and set in 1990s Southern California, SURVIVING JACK stars Emmy Award nominee Christopher Meloni (“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”) as a man becoming a dad, as his son (Connor Buckley, “Deception”) becomes a man, in a time before “coming of age” was something you could Google. SURVIVING JACK is set to air on Thursdays (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) for eight weeks, following AMERICAN IDOL (8:00-8:30 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) results shows. New ensemble comedy US & THEM will also join the schedule in the spring. Starring Emmy Award nominee Jason Ritter (“Parenthood”) and Alexis Bledel (“Mad Men,” “Gilmore Girls”), and based on an award-winning BBC series, the series follows a young couple, whose path to happily-ever-after is complicated by the screwed-up circus of people closest to them.

Sleepy Hollow: Sneak Peek At John Noble

15 10 2013

Fringe fans cannot wait until their beloved John Noble makes a stop in Sleepy Hollow. Here is a preview:

Glee: Farewell to Cory

9 10 2013

I cry every time I watch the promotional clip of the Glee episode that will pay tribute to Cory Monteith on Thursday, October 10, 2013. Cory, who played Finn on the show, died of an accident overdose on July 13, 2013. The final coroner’s report was released last week.

To tell you the truth, it isn’t a particularly good week. It is the anniversary week of several people who have died. This morning I was informed of a dear person’s passing. I cried all day today.

Part of me does not want to watch this episode. I happened to catch the pilot episode of Glee playing on a local station right at the point when Finn starts singing “Don’t Stop Believing.” Quickly, I turned it off. I did not think I could watch the first two episodes of this season, but I took a deep breath, hit play, and I was okay with it. I knew on some level that the show–the actors, the production staff and others–found a way to muster the strength to bring us a story without falling apart.

From reading sources on the internet, it appears that they are not going to say why Finn died, just that he had. They did not want to exploit the situation. I respect that decision. It could have been a vehicle, however, to show that good people wrestle with demons, or maybe that Finn dies of alcohol poisoning, something that is becoming a problem on college campuses across the country. One of the last scenes we see are him and Puck partying at college.

I will bring my tissues and show my support to the show. They had to share some of their grief to us publicly. That takes courage. We all need to find some.

Old Favorites Returning in 24: Live Another Day

6 10 2013

Kim Raver and William Devane will reunite with award-winning star Kiefer Sutherland when they reprise their respective daughter-father roles as AUDREY RAINES and JAMES HELLER on the thrilling new event series 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY, premiering Spring 2014 on FOX.24LiveAnotherDay

Both joined the original “24” in Season Four (2005). Devane served as Secretary of Defense JAMES HELLER and the father to Raver’s character, AUDREY RAINES, a committed and passionate woman with a tragic past, who fell in love with JACK BAUER (Sutherland). They were both last seen in the final scenes of Season Six, when Jack said goodbye to a catatonic Audrey.

Raver and Devane’s reprisals add to the previously announced return of Mary Lynn Rajskub as CHLOE O’BRIAN, Bauer’s quirky CTU confidante. Raver, known for her roles on “Third Watch,” “The Nine” and “Lipstick Jungle,” was most recently featured on the network series “Revolution” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” Devane, best known for his villainous role on “Knots Landing,” recently played the U.S. President in the feature film “The Dark Knight Rises.”

Restarting the groundbreaking and Emmy Award-winning drama franchise, 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY will be set in London and will follow the further exploits of Bauer, taking up his story four years after the events of “24’s” final season. Once again, viewers will join the heroic agent on a pulse-pounding ride in real time.

24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY is a production of Teakwood Lane Productions in association with 20th Century Fox Television and Imagine Television. Howard Gordon, Evan Katz, Manny Coto, David Fury, Robert Cochran, Brian Grazer, Jon Cassar and Kiefer Sutherland will executive-produce. The original series, which had its last American broadcast on May 24, 2010, was created by Joel Surnow and Cochran.

Fox Orders New Ensemble Comedy

3 10 2013

Fox Broadcasting Company (FOX) has given a series order to MULANEY (working title), a young ensemble comedy created, written by and starring John Mulaney (“Saturday Night Live”). The new multi-cam comedy will be produced by Universal Television and executive-produced by Lorne Michaels (“Saturday Night Live”) and Mulaney, and the pilot episode will be directed by Andy Ackerman (“The New Adventures of Old Christine,” “Seinfeld”). Emmy Award-winning actor and comedian Martin Short (“Primetime Glick,” “Saturday Night Live,” “SCTV”) will co-star.

“John is one of the sharpest and most skilled next-generation comedic voices out there, who also happens to be surrounded by the best of the best on this new show,” said Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment for FOX. “I am personally thrilled to be working with Lorne Michaels again, a friend and show business hero who knows better than anyone how to build a show around talent. Add in the comedy magic of Marty Short and the seasoned hand of Andy Ackerman, and I believe we have the makings of something really special here.”

Set in New York, and based on the life and stand-up comedy of Mulaney, the new comedy follows an aspiring comedian (Mulaney) coming of age under the influence of his boss (Short), his roommates and his neighbors.

A wizened comedy veteran at 30 years of age, John Mulaney began his career in New York’s East Village as part of the two-man “Oh Hello Show,” with comedian Nick Kroll. He has since performed in Ireland, Australia and Grand Island, NE. He was named one of Variety’s 10 Comics to Watch in 2008 – the same year he began working at “Saturday Night Live,” on which he appeared as a “Weekend Update” correspondent and co-created such characters as “Stefon” with Bill Hader. Mulaney has released two stand-up comedy specials: “The Top Part” (2009) and “New in Town” (2012).

MULANEY (wt) is produced by Universal Television, Broadway Video and 3 Arts Entertainment. The series is created and written by John Mulaney. Lorne Michaels, Mulaney, David Miner (BROOKLYN NINE-NINE, “30 Rock”), Dave Becky (“Louie,” “Everybody Hates Chris”), Andrew Singer (“Portlandia”) and Andy Ackerman will serve as executive producers. Ackerman will direct the pilot.
