Top Ten Reasons to Keep Watching “Enlisted” on Fox

16 01 2014

1. They promised it would “get better.” Having seen the next 3 episodes, I can guarantee that.  EnlistedLogo

2. Women will like this comedy. It has a strong female leader with Sgt. Jill Perez. She can keep up keep up with supersoldier Sgt. Pete Hill (see Friday’s episode “Randy Get Your Gun” for an example).

3. How many shows can you let your kids watch with you anymore? The show has great lessons families can talk about.

4. Double entendre. There are so many lines that work for a child’s level but also have an entirely different meaning for adults (see Friday’s episode “Randy Get Your Gun” for an example). Just like Shrek.

5. “Prank War” will give you all deliciously wonderful ideas on how to prank your co-workers (or your family).

6. Brothers! Brothers by family or brothers-in-arms. There is a co-plot in “Randy Get Your Gun” with Randy and Derrick that melts your heart.

7. It’s funny! So many people are getting bogged down in “this is NOT the Army” stuff. CHILL-OUT! They are working hard to get better with the rules and regulations while keeping it light and funny. Instead of just criticizing make suggestions on how to make it better. Obviously they have an open mind.

8. It’s smart! It is not easy to write and then deliver lengthy lines of spot-on comedy.

9. It’s sexy! There is a scene in “Pete’s Airstream” that rivals Jamie Bamber’s infamous equivalent scene in Battlestar Galactica. And since I can’t post the picture from the “Enlisted” episode, let me give you the visual of that scene.

10. Because it deserves a chance. There is so much crap on television. When a funny show comes on, one that you can watch with your family. Fortunately on Fox, they take all forms of viewing into consideration when deciding on whether to renew or cancel a show. Watch it live. Watch it on DVR. Watch it on Hulu or Fox.com. JUST WATCH IT!

And if you needed a number 11, don’t forget Enlisted is running a campaign to help Operation Gratitude. Show them your best salute and they will donate $1 to help support our troops. Details can be found here: http://www.fox.com/enlisted/salutes

Fox’s “Enlisted” Premiere Date Change

21 09 2013

(Press Release) In order to take advantage of our winter sports promotional platform, new comedy ENLISTED, starring Geoff Stults (“The Finder”), Chris Lowell (“Veronica Mars”) and Parker Young (“Suburgatory”), will premiere on Friday, Jan. 10 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT), following all-new episodes of BONES (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) and RAISING HOPE (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX.EnlistedonFox

As previously announced, BONES will make its time period premiere when the drama series moves from Mondays (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) to Fridays (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on Nov. 8. This fall, all-new episodes of BONES will be followed by one hour of all-new, back-to-back installments of RAISING HOPE (9:00-9:30 PM and 9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT), which makes its Season Four premiere on Nov. 8.

ENLISTED is a new military-set family comedy that centers on three brothers who, when the best of the best are sent overseas, stay behind to try to keep the post in order. Staff Sergeant PETE HILL (Stults) was on a path for a huge military career until one mistake overseas got him booted stateside to Fort McGee, the post in Florida where his two younger brothers are stationed. Now, as their platoon sergeant, Pete must serve both as big brother and military boss. Corporal DERRICK HILL (Lowell) is the middle brother – smart and sarcastic, he likes to stir up trouble and doesn’t really care about being a soldier. Private RANDY HILL (Young), on the other hand, loves it. Between clean-up duty at a parade, human-grease-bowling and assorted soldierly pranks, they will inadvertently discover the key to strengthening their long-lost childhood bonds.

Fort McGee Rear D is run by Command Sergeant Major DONALD CODY (Emmy Award winner Keith David, “Cloud Atlas,” “The Cape”), a firm but fair man who served with the brothers’ late father. Sergeant Major Cody promised to look out for them, so he brought all the brothers to the post to fulfill that promise. Also under Cody’s command is the confident, funny, tough and beautiful Staff Sergeant JILL PEREZ (Angelique Cabral, “Friends with Benefits”), who is the same rank as Pete and leads another Rear D platoon on post, all the while challenging Pete’s decisions at every turn.

ENLISTED is produced by 20th Century Fox Television. Kevin Biegel is creator and executive producer, and Mike Royce serves as an executive producer. “Like” ENLISTED on Facebook at Facebook.com/ENLISTEDonFOX. “ENLISTED” premieres on Fox Broadcasting on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 9:30 Eastern/8:30 Central time.

First Look: “Enlisted”

18 07 2013

This show will be on the fast track for renewal for season 2. I laughed as hard and as often in “ENLISTED” as I do for “New Girl” or “The Mindy Project.”

After an incident in Afghanistan, Sergeant Pete Hill (Geoff Stults) is reassigned to Rear Detachment Unit at Fort McGee (fictional name) in Florida where his brothers, Derrick (Chris Lowell) and Randy (Parker Young), are. Upon his return, Sgt. Major Donald Cody (Keith David) gives his unit a mission. Pete wants to be anywhere but here. He feels this is beneath his supersoldier status.

The feel of the show is reminiscent of the beloved classic “Stripes” but with faster line delivery with snappier comments like: “I’m going to watch ‘The Hurt Locker’ to cheer myself up.” Baron Vaughn (who I adore from Fairly Legal) plays the civilian contractor “Wallace” who is the thorn in the unit’s side. He has set up War Games with an Italian troop he is certain will win. Leading another unit at Fort McGee is the lovely Angelique Cabral who plays Sergeant Jill Perez. There is chemistry between Jill and Pete.

Through the eyes of his fellow soldiers, he remembers what is important. Not only are his brothers family, but his unit also become family and family sticks together through the good, the bad and the ugly. Pete learns that there are no small jobs in the Army and fulfilling his original mission is more important than the game.

If people don’t get hung up on whether or not things are Army regulation or not (for example the nail polish one unit member is wearing that does not fit the code), or whether certain behaviors would be tolerated in a real Army unit, they will definitely enjoy this show. Put this show on your “must-watch” list for the fall.  Thanks again to Fox VIP and Fox Broadcasting for the privilege of seeing the pilot.

“ENLISTED” premieres on Fox Broadcasting on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 9:30 Eastern/8:30 Central time.

First Look: Sleepy Hollow

6 07 2013

Heads….will…roll! This show will make ‘headlines’ when it premieres! When it comes to the Headless Horseman, jokes like these will be abundant. What is no joke is this show. The first episode lays out exactly what this show is about and where it plans to take you. In order to create the series, this version of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow deviates from the original story quite a bit, but that does not take anything away from the drama and suspense. The storytelling in the first episode is tight.

Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) wakes up in our time. The Headless Horseman (Richard Cetrone) is here, too. Their bond was forged in blood. Can you imagine waking up 250 years later and everything that has changed? There are roads, computers, the internet, abolition of slavery, and Starbucks! The “B” story in this is all the wonders Ichabod discovers and his reactions to them. He joins forces with a woman police officer, Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie), who reports to Captain Frank Irving (Orlando Jones). The first episode also features Clancy Brown who plays Sheriff August Corbin and John Cho who plays Andy Dunn. After seeing the first episode, I am going to predict that this will be similar to “The Following” where you just cannot count on many people being safe with the exception of the leads of Crane and the Headless Horseman.

If you love mystery and intrigue sprinkled in with elements of the supernatural, a battle being forces of good and evil that are leading to the apocalypse, this show should be on your radar for the fall. It premieres on Fox on Monday, September 15, 2013 9 PM Eastern/8 PM Central time.

My thanks once again to Fox Broadcasting and the FOX VIP program for the privilege of watching the pilot episode.

Looking forward to seeing this show as well. How will I make room on my DVR? My husband suggests we upgrade. I am thinking I might agree with him.
